About
Thorsten Thiel is a post-doctoral fellow in the cluster of excellence, "The Formation of Normative Orders" (Frankfurt). His current research focuses on the role of oppositional actors in the global order as well as on the transformation of communication between civil society actors and international institutions in the digital realm.
He studied Political Science, Sociology and Economic and Social History in Aachen. In June 2006 he started his PhD-project as a member of the research training group “Constitutionalism beyond the state” (HU Berlin). In his thesis he deals with the uses of democratic theory in the discourse on European integration. The thesis has been submitted and defended in 2010.
Thorsten has taught at Frankfurt University, Free University Berlin and RWTH Aachen. He has been a visiting fellow at WZB Berlin (2011), University College London (2008) and Stanford University (2007). He is an editor of theorieblog.de, a German blog dedicated to Political Theory and Philosophy.
